San Benito High School District Branding

When San Benito High School District was looking to rebrand, I was excited by the opportunity to showcase a unique community and a school district with high standards.

SBHSD’s motto is “Continuing Excellence”, instilling in their students to enter the world after graduation with a goal of excellence in mind.

I began my process by researching San Benito County and the city of Hollister, exploring the history and natural beauty of the region.

My first round of logo comps was the result of this research, reflecting the history of farming, wildflowers only native to that area, as well as using the form of the mission bell as inspiration.

After this round, the client narrowed their vision and discovered that rather than utilizing literal form, they wanted to explore less representational ideas. I delved into the world of color, form and meaning, and developed a visual language for San Benito that could represent the tenets of their mission (Symbolism of Color and Form Study below).

The final brand is clean, bright, and expressive, while communicating the values of the brand, continuing excellence into the next era of San Benito High School District.
